Default shape file to cogo points

when using the map 3d functionality in civil 3d is there a way to convert the shape file points to cogo points
easily? presently what I have to do is connect to data, bring in the shape file (these represent points outlining wetland areas from a gps)
deal with the style settings and create a feature label and then create a cogo point on top of the point on screen and retype the description (feature label).

this is time consuming and brings a lot of possible human error into the picture.
so I am hoping someone out there knows a more efficient and accurate method of doing something like this.

    thanks in advance

Don't that data import in as AutoCAD points? You can convert AutoCAD points to COGO points. It'll probably lose the data after conversion though.

Another option would be viewing the data through Map 3d to export to CSV from the data table.

There are also routines floating around the 'net to connect to object data and create COGO points from that. It would need to be written to do all those steps.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

If you were to consider third party add-ons, DotSoft's C3DTools ...

    https://www.dotsoft.com/c3dtools.htm

... contains a dedicated Points > ShapeFile Read (and write) tool.

    Dialog example: https://www.dotsoft.com/images/csPntShpRed.png

After selecting a shapefile, you can easily choose the fields for the point description and the remaining Shapefile data (from the DBF) becomes PointUDP. The result is CogoPoints in the point group you designate.
