Default point style and label style in xrefs

I have a base dwg with cogo points at a 1" = 40'. I have set the point style to basic, size is 0.025". the label style is set to elevation and description, text hgt. = 0.05"
when that dwg is xref'd into another dwg at the same 1" = 40' scale, the point style is much larger and the label style shows point#, description and elevation. for some reason the text hgt is correct.
how do I make the points display correctly in the base drawing. Or do i have to make the dwg with the points the base dwg.?

    thanks

    Robert

    update: solution found.
i had saved the file with the points and when the other dwg was opened I hit the reload button that pops up saying the xref had changed but nothing happened.
i finally went to the xref dialogue and selected the reload dwg and everything updated properly.
