Prevent objects from inheriting system color

When I create an object family that has a pipe connector, the object always changes color to match the color assigned to the system I connect it to. But I don't want it to do this. I want it to keep the colors I gave it in the family editor. How do I go about making this happen?

I would look into making the family type something other than a Pipe Fitting.
