Default scheduling floor area from linked model.

I have an apartment building where each type of apartment is a separate revit model that is linked into the host building core revit model. I am trying to create a schedule in the host model that shows the floor areas for each type of apartment (linked apartment type model) I cannot seem to figure this one out. Love you input.

I can think of a couple of methods, depending on how specific you want the areas to be and/or which seems more efficient for you. Both utilize rooms.

    1. Assuming your host model also contains the demising and corridor walls, place a room in the host model for each unit. This will also account for any variations in the units as a result of facade differences or end conditions. I add a custom parameter for Unit Types so that the rooms can be sorted that way.
    2. Place rooms in the unit models and schedule their total area in the host model. You could either use the Unit Type custom parameter or the name of a link instance to sort them in the schedule.

I would use areas instead of rooms for this application. This is what areas are created for - to account for square footage situations that don't exactly align with room bounding elements.

You can either do all the areas in your host model or you could put an area in each linked model and then schedule them in the host.
