    How was this surface in image built?

    It is a functional surface.

    Only indicators are the image icons shown at the expanded definition line. It looks like a Snapshot from a point cloud ? ? ?

    Insight that might give clues. I now work in the Water Resources group. Nowhere near the extent of Civil 3d that I am use to doing. The Hydro Engineers like to use Lidar and GIS (ESRI).

    Doe the definition tab of the surface property not provide any insight to where the data is located?

    None, The only indicators are the icon images shown.
