Lines and Text on screen displays as light grey

Hello,
OK this is something I have never seen. The lines and text in this drawing (not created be me) show up on the screen as light grey even though the line color property is set to "by layer" and the color for that layer is set. I have tried different colors, just to see if I have any control at all and the line color still stays grey. Weird. Also if I close the drawing and reopen it, just for a second, the color shows up correctly but then immediately goes back to grey. I tried the Audit command and yes Autocad did find and correct errors but this changed nothing.
Anybody have any ideas on this one?

We need some more information, maybe a screen shot?
is this in PS (layout) or in Model space?
If it's only in the layout, it's probably because the "Display plot styles" is checked on under page setup for that layout.
(in this case it's displaying what it will plot like with the assigned plot style)

I found the solution. It is a setting in mapspace. I would have never ever thought of that. I wasn't even working in mapspace! Thanks Autocad!
