Default Generating rooms from Autocad files

Our firm is about to generate a bunch of Revit files for a local university. They are going to use it for room data management (S.Q. footage, department, seating etc.)

They already have a few buildings in Revit but most they have in Autocad. Is there a quick way to generate rooms in Revit after linking in the Autocad file? I am thinking room separation lines but drawing each room could be time consuming.

Or is there a better way I am unaware of.

I don't think they want the full building modeled in Revit just enough data to generate spread sheets from time to time.

    Thanks for any insight.

Do your cad files have good layer management? Even better, do they contain an area layer in each room? Either way, I would check out archsmarter.com for the DWG_to_RVT_lines macro. It can create room separation lines in Revit for each line of a specific layer in a DWG.

I have no idea what the cad files look like. We are in early stages of figuring out what to do.
Thanks for the reference. I have registered and will take a look at the macro.

Well despite my best efforts I cannot get the macro to work properly.

    Any other options?

Edit: I finally got it to work but there are issues. If there were area boundaries already in place great. However in one of the building files there were not. The macro only knows to draw the lines that are there so the Revit room areas will be calculating the door swing in/out. Meh
