Default Existing wall with new finish

Hi All, what's the best way to represent existing walls with a new finish, say tiled finish - is it possible to have an existing phase for the wall, but a new construction phase for the finish? Or do I have to create a 20 or 30mm wall with a tile finish and draw it over the face of the existing walls? Thanks for any help.

At a minimum the existing wall and new finish will need to be different elements.

I can't tell from your description if there is an existing finish that will be removed from the existing framing or if the new finish is just going over an existing finish/substrate.

Nonetheless, here's an example of a workflow we had on a recent project: existing wall where the gypsum board needed to be removed to access the utility shaft and then refinished with gypsum board. We ended up with 3 walls to represent the different components of the wall:
    1) Wall framing to remain: Phase Created = Existing; Phase Demolished = None
    2) Original Gyp Bd finish: Phase Created = Existing; Phase Demolished = None
    3) New Gyp Bd finish: Phase Created = New Construction

If the new finish you're adding is going over an existing substrate that is not being removed, then that substrate can be part of (1) and you can skip (2). But as you surmised, the new tile finish has to be its own type and a separate element from the existing wall.

Thanks CAtDiva, thanks for the that. For now I don't need the 2nd phase, but it's good that you've added that as well! I wasn't sure if that was the done thing, but you've assured me that it is, ie having 2 (in your case, 3) separate walls.
