Default BIM Deliverables for GIS / ESRI users?

Today at AUGI CON 24, there were users discussing issues they were having with regard to requesting CAD files, but receiving Revit models instead, and the difficulty it caused with their GIS program, ESRI.

There was one person who suggested (sorry I didn't catch his name) that if they advise the design team to reference coordinate links from a survey into the Revit model, that it might export more useable outcome to CAD.

Is there anyone else experiencing issues with this type of thing? Whether it's to agree on the problem or to suggest solutions. I would love to hear more.

    Thank you!

Not sure how ESRI works, but relative to ACAD/Civil 3D, if there is a survey that utilizes a recognized coordinate system, then that should be linked into Revit and the coordinates "Acquired" as Shared Coordinates (1). DWGs that are created upon export will correspond to these Shared Coordinates. It works pretty slick once you get it set up. If ESRI utilizes the same coordinate systems as Civil 3D, the same should work for them (I would expect in the US that they would).

Footnote (1): there are more steps to this process in Revit which a search for "Shared Coordinates" will dig into deeper, but that's not the question.

So, I went to another conference this week, and spoke with an ESRI guy, so asked him about some deliverables issues.

He started telling me about some owners doing construction and closeout and dictating their standards for CAD and BIM and getting what they need, and using the data for a variety of operational management, including lease management.
I don't recall all of the places he mentioned, but SFO (airport) was one of the more successful ones with their usage and deliverables.
