Default Startmode Read Only and set to 0

I have a few pc's that the Startmode variable is set to 0 and cannot be changed to 1. It says the variable is Read Only. I tried to set the user as an local admin and change it but didn't work.
I also tired to set this registry entry and reboot but that didn't work ether.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R21.0\ACAD-0005\Variables\*DISPLAYSTARTTAB

I didn't find any other solutions online. Any ideas are appreciated.

I cannot set it to 1. It says it is read only under the user, under my login and under any login with admin rights.

If you meant the Registry - I set it to 1 and it made no difference even after a reboot.

So i just worked on a new pc and it just had cad loaded on thru an Autodesk deployment. Before configuring anything, I checked the STARTMODE and it is in read only and set to 0. So the only thing I can think of is the deployment is set somehow. Ring a bell for anyone?

Yes, set the registry *DISPLAYSTARTTAB = 1 and STARTMODE =1.

Do you have multiple versions of AutoCAD? If so, you may need to make sure you have the right registry key. Type (vlax-product-key) at the command line.

I just opened the deployment and found a check box for Startmode Tab - it was checked off. So I checked it on and saved. Next install I will know if this is the issue for sure.

Yes, I did. I was confirming your reply, but you weren't clear. Did you check if you had the correct registry key by running (vlax-product-key)? The key you typed in your first post is probably not correct for your version. It was just a sample in the tech doc. For example, mine is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.3\ACAD-7101\Variables
