    Red face Users of pyRevit

    Hi all,
I was just wondering how many users have installed and are using pyRevit to create toolbars and scripts in Revit.

We are governed by an external IT company who assessed pyRevit to be a potential security weakness - and effectively banned us from using it.
IMHO any programming tool could be viewed as a possible security breach potential - even VBA and C+...

I just wanted to gauge the usage of the tools - as as far as I can see - pyRevit offers much more functionality and ease of use than Dynamo.

    Thanks

You should write a business case for the use of this tool.

    • What benefit does it provide the business?
    • What does the tool cost?
    • How much savings does the tool provide in man hours or production costs?
    • What additional expenses will the business incur if the tool is not available?

This needs to be a business decision and not a security decision. IT's role is to provide solutions to the business that benefit the bottom line. If their primary focus is to security and the bottom line is secondary, the business needs to correct that.

Yes this is a capitalist view, but the business isn't going to be successful to fulfill its planned goals if IT is not focused on the same thing.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

I ran into this situation 20+ years ago when I wanted to code for AutoCAD. These api's only work inside of the app and only run when you want to do a task. I could write something with a dos bat file that could do a lot of damage and it only requires Notepad! You have to trust your own employees! Who's running the show? Your boss or the IT company? They work for you, not the other way around.
