    Default Portable license utitliy

Has andybody tried to use the portable license utility? I read about it and it sounds like it would actually fit my needs. I have a license that my employer bought for my work computer but I would like to use it on my laptop to get extra practice on it since we don't use it alot at work. I am afraid I may forget what I do know. Any advice? Is this legal?

It is legal. In the license it says you can do this.

There isn't much to it. It is rather a simple process. Just install AutoCAD on both computers and register one of them. Find the computer id number that the utility will give you for the laptop. Add that to the list of computers on the main computer. Export the license to a floppy, a usb thumb drive, or email it to the laptop. Import the license. Thats it.

Remember to transfer it back to your main computer when you are done.

Does the license have to make a "round trip" ? or can it be reinstalled on the source computer without ever making it to the target computer?

    This would be the scenario
I might want to work at home some night....
But never actually get the opportunity to even get on the computer
Next day am I stuck in Emergency mode or can I reload the license to the source???

Ideally the round trip method is the preferred option but you can regenerate a license.

If you need to regenerate a license (if you lose a license transfer file or transfer code, for example), you can recreate it by exporting the license again from the source computer. (This is one reason you obtain the license from the target computer when you initially set up a license transfer between two computers.) The Portable License utility can identify the target computer where you exported the original license, so you can only re-export the license to that same computer.
