Default Display of multiple surfaces in Roof Plans

*sigh*....and speaking of Roof Plans, I have a Roof Plan that should be simple but is giving me "curry"......Imagine an existing roof that has another new one sailing above it (eventually meeting the existing one further up the slope ) ...OK...what I get displayed is BOTH roof surface patterns showing through...the view is set to hidden and I have the existing roof pattern showing through the new one. The new roof pattern still shows as well though......what am I doing wrong?

Hate to ask the obvious but do you have one roof plan as the underlay for another?
