    Default Arched Skirt Battens?

    OK, Revit Gurus,

I have this situation: I need to create a family (ideally external), which would be fully parametric, made up of several similar objects (battens) with their number changing accordingly to the total length (an array?), but their bottom ends are cut along an arch (see picture 1). That means, each is of a different length...

I created an array - they flexing fine, and then I introduced a void (I even made it flexing correctly too!) but it just wouldn't cut the battens! See picture 2.

If I ungroup the array - I lose its functionality (parametric number of battens). If I include the void in the group - I have as many of them as battens - no good!

How should I approach this? Is it possible to achieve what I want, without building "in-place" family (picture 1)? It takes too much time and memory!

    Thanks in advance...

That's a tough one to do, as cutting arrayed members with a void doesn't seem to be supported.

Here's a method I've used with satisfactory results.

Draw the skirt batten as a wall, making it as thick as you want the pickets.

Edit the wall profile to get the curved bottom you desire.

Place a hosted wall reveal vertically at one end, sized to match what you want for a space.

Array the reveal as far as the wall midpoint.

Mirror the group to do the other half of the wall.

    See attached.

Here's a family that uses voids to cut out in between slats. The slat is a sheet and the voids remove the spaces. The arc will flex when the width changes and there is a chord height parameter. It uses a reference line and the first void is created on the flat plane of the reference line. Then the array includes both the void and the reference line. See if it works conceptually for your needs and take it from here?

Well, that did it! Thank you (both) very much!

As I was more interested with an external family, rather than "in-place" one (this I have done already, as seen on the first picture), I based my family on Steve's creation (I took it slightly further with more parameters).

It works fine - so thank you again... And I learned something new again - instead of multiplying battens (what appeared to me the most logical way - with nested batten family, etc.), I had to multiply (array) the spaces!
