    Default Dentil Molding

How do others make dentil moldings. I don't want to array blocks.

I'm thinking of creating a "railing" with the backband as the "rail" and the dentils as the "balusters".

I'd prefer of course to make a wall sweep, but don't know how to make the gap.

    Thoughts... comments?

I've allways arrayed a family component, but your railing idea sounds like a real winner, just make a generic model in the shape you want, load it into a balluster family, then load that in and your ready to rock. You can also create a corner shaped one for the ends as a post and it should wrap corners nicely. Good thinking out of the box.

Brilliant! I have wondered about that for a year. Even one of Autodesk's teachers said it was impossible. SImply make a railing and use square posts. Image uses 5" posts.

I follow you on the balusters but don't see how you are getting rid of the railing. Also, how are you getting it to work on a slope?

I tried the Array but the number of elements either has to be calculated or trial and error. Am I off on the wrong track?

Haven't tried a slope yet -- probably will follow a sloped floor. Array will drive you crazy. Railing is the answer. Attached are the settings I used with 5" sq. posts.

Works sloped, too. Set "railing's" host to a sloped floor.

Here's a parametric array that I made for an entry. I must admit the railing idea looks promising though.

Probably should be moved to Family discussion?

Thanks for sharing the file. It is great. How does the railing method work?

If it is not too time consuming. Would someone please explain the railing method of creating this detail.

    Thank you in advance.
