Dynamic Input Freezing

I have noticed several times that the dynamic input box freezes. I get a red outline around the box and it is rendered unusable. What causes this??? I haven't been able to figure out why this happens.

It happens when you type in something that can't be used for what you are doing, for example if you are trying to type .x and type .c instead, you then need to back space to the offending letter and try again, in this case it would be c.

In my tests, I have found a few ways to clear the error. First of all, you have to erase the offending character. You can then 1. type in an appropriate response; 2; hit the up arrow and then enter; 3. hit the down arrow.

Any of these three should unfreeze you and clear the red box.
