Default 5 Months With Revit - Backup Folder

    2. Not new but a dedicated folder or folders for automatic backup of all files - project, family, template, whatever. For the most part Designers/Architects naturally tend to be pretty organized folks and this is pursued in their computer work. Having backup files relentlessly popping up then gratuitously (in multiples no less) hanging around in working folders is sloppy and the chore of house cleaning should not even be a consideration. Or, perhaps, the mature option of not having to create backup files in the first place would fill the bill. Most of us do have our own backup protocol and really would prefer not to have the hand holding most particularly in view of the aforesaid downside.

Yes, yes, yes, this is highly needed. Our servers are being taxed to the max do to backup files. I know these need to be kept, but not necessarily backed up, so if we could have them on a dedicated file that we don't back up it would be helpful. not to mention how I despise looking at folders with tons of files other than the one I want to open.

What if backup files just got a different extension, like other autodesk products? then you could leave them off backup tape, and could find your working files much easier because you don't have to scroll through lists of .0001, .0002, .0003, etc.

I'd still like the idea to have the option of defining a path for backup files so that they're in a subdirectory of your working directory
ie: i work in the Drawings/Arch folder. it would be nice if backups were called filename.0002.bak, and stored in the Drawings/Arch/Backup/ folder.

Huh????? Scott thats the old "workset backup" for you to retrieve backups from workset files.
The factory has decided to drop "Workset" and make it just "Backups....".
So no! You still can't create a backup folder for non workset files. All our files are worksets,
so this wish really doesn't effect us. Workset files amoung other things, also give you much better control, retrieving, safety, and reliability of your backup sets.

Think about maintaining library files. families are never worksetted, and i think there'd be great benefit to being able to make updates to files in the library folders w/out cluttering the folder up with backups. Most of our files don't have worksets until a second person joins the project.
