Hello everyone,
I am about to buy one of these for A3 size output. Anyone have any good/bad/ugly reports on how they perform in real life usage?
Thanks in advance.

This is a good printer. Supports PCL6, HPGL/2, and has Postscript 3 emulation built in. The only problem I have ever seen with it is the 16Mb in the 5100 or the 32Mb in the 5100tn is a little light if you plan to do alot of hybrid (graphics and vector) plotting from AutoCAD. I have seen partial plots, missing vectors, or font substitutions because of low memory.
Upgrading the memory to 100Mb+ solves this problem. I would recommend ordering it with the Max Ram for best results in all situations and from all applications. I think it max's out at 192Mb. You can also get an optional HD (up to 40Gb I think) if you want to reprint from an internal queue.
As for speed, it is awesome at text documents but a little sluggish when processing HPGL and Postscriptm but I think you will find this to be true with any comparable printer.
Hey Robert,
Thanks for the input. I picked up the 5100 a couple of days ago. I see what you mean about the RAM. The printer comes with 16Mb (ridiculous), I got another 16 at an outrageous price but it still does get a little bogged down with a run of prints over about 4 sheets, pauses briefly between every couple. Have found a source of super-cheap RAM and will take your advice and get at least another 96Mb.
The print quality is very cool, best 2.5 grand I have spent in ages.

I picked up a 5000N a couple of years ago for £400 (they were so thick they threw in the toner as well) - I just love it! Had to throw some memory at it to stop the missing bits, but never looked back after that!
Only issue now is that my old man's firm (unfortunately in Barbados) has a Minolta A3 colour laser which I used when I was out there on a project . . . . I want one of them now!!
We use the HP Laserjet 5100dtn and have been very pleased with its performance.
Andy, look on ebay, second hand colour printers are cheap if you search. I listed one recemtly and I'm embarrassed to state how much it went out the door for.
