I would like to see a combo of the wireframe and shaded views...sort of like the sketchup view where you can see through the building

You can already do this Greg

I use a Default wall to required thickness & set transparency to say 50%

More problematic when you use compound walls but you can make default wall to same thickness and substitute

Yeah, but this requires that you leave the final material definition until the very end of the project. As a structural engineer, I do the structure part after I have the building envelope built...i.e. last. I can't leave material definition to the end. I also don't like workarounds to substitute for good workflow. In this case, it would simply be a new view style. If sketchup can do it for less than $500, then Revit can do it for over $3000.

Yeah I've got to agree it would be better to have the control option
    throughout the design process

    Greg -

Keep in mind all of the things Revit can do for $3000 compared to SkethUp

Touche. My point is merely that, for some wishes there is a lot of complexity involved and it the workarounds are totally justified. In this case, I think that as Revit gets more complex functionality -- i.e. HVAC, Structural, etc. -- the ability to work in a transparent 3D environment is going to be very useful. The Wireframe mode doesn't cut it in 3D because it is too complex in 3D views to really see what's going on. Obviously hidden line won't work for this. hide/Isolate is an option, but it seems to me to be an elegant solution to give us a sketchup-like translucent view option. Just my 2 cents, which, give the current exchange rate and state of the economy, is woth somewhat less than 2 cents lately.

I think you can do this using the demolition tool as well...

    Greg, I agree.

If you think about this. It's only a display option. Autodesk could (I would think) easily lease or otherwise "option" SketchUp's display engine capabilities or create their own approximation. Greg, I've been begging for this for a long time.

    I'm with you man.

I'm with you Greg, Yes, we need that tool because we don't want to buy or use sketchup, we own Revit (and alot of use gave up ADT, by the way) and we want it to have that option plus the sketchmode like sketchup, it's not easy, but also is not easy for us to be importing-exporting, making changes and again importing-exporting, and I'm not complaining, but It will help us all, some of the moderators are just trying to excuse the programmers, please don't, we are trying to dream here that we can have the perfect software, yes, that has every good tool.
