Default Portable License Utility - Tracking?

Has anyone encountered problems transferring licenses between multiple computers?

I am using a stand alone license for Revit 8.0. As people come and go in the office, I have used the PLU to transfer the file from place to place. This chain of a moving license has the potential for getting really long. I have moved one license from the computer it was registered on to 4 different computers and now want it back at the source computer. Is there any reason why there will be a problem importing a license from a transfer file back to the source computer? Will it ever matter where that license originally resides?

For example: Computer 1 has a license registered on it. It was exported to Comp. 2 when someone left. Someone new got hired so Computer 1 imported a license from comp. 3, which had an imported license from Computer 4. I'm just curious if any of this will matter in the long run? Will it matter if the computer with the source license crashes, if the license is actually being used someplace else?

Thanks. I just don't want everything to get all mixed up if I will have to sort out a huge matrix later.

If I am not mistaken the license is actually transferred to another computer. For PLC to work, you have to provide each computer's identification code to each computer's PLC. If you transfer from A to B, then B to C and finally C to D...to get the license back to A you should just need to add A's information to computer D and transfer. The trick is to have all the identification codes you might want to transfer to at your disposal.

When you transfer to a new computer for the first time, doesn't the Portable License Utility require the user to send a file. This file contains all of the computers that this license has been to. (I could be wrong.) So, to transfer from D to A you would only need to transfer the code.

Like I said, I could be wrong. I haven't transfered a license to a new computer in a while.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

What better excuse to check eh? Well you are are really close, there is an option to export all the computer identies when you export the license (see image). So if you remember to do it, shouldn't be hard to put it back.
