    Default AutoCAD Layer Standards Manager

Does anyone understand how to use - Layer Standards, Key Styles, and Overrides built into AutoCAD 2005 and later. I would like the Company Layer Standards to be available in the Template drawing but setting a new one up is a mystery

Setting up a dwt is not the issue. The isssue is - creating a NEW layer standard using:

Layer Standards, Key Styles, and Overrides

    Hi kenb,

it's actually pretty easy - setup a new drawing the way you want it and then do a "saveas".

Save your new (blank) drawing after you have it the way you want it with a .dwt extension and then call that new .dwt file every time you start a new drawing.

Feel free to write me if you need some more help!

I realize that this is a CAD Management issue, but, for the question of setting up a template drawing, I am going to move this to this forum as I believe it will be better served here.

    Hi

Are you referring to a DWS (CAD Standards) file?

No. The dws is for standards enforcement. Hidden inside the 2005 Layer Manager is a Standards utility that ADT uses and is now available in AutoCAD 2005. It includes an AIA set of Layer Standards and there is an option to create new Layer Standard Sets. Problem is it's a mystery to run.

    Hi

Please direct me to this new feature found in vanilla AutoCAD 2005...

    Hi

That is not vanilla AutoCAD 2005.

    That is Map 3D.

Vanilla AutoCAD 2005 does not have such functionality.

Please let me know which Autodesk product forum you would like this thread moved to, I will then happily take care of it.

    Have a good one, Mike

Question Re: AutoCAD Layer Standards Manager

you know, I realize that title bar says map3d, but, the icon doesn't look like the map icon, and I don't see such a button in my layer manager. am guessing this might be land desktop?

    Hi

    Thanks for the info...

Whichever vertical Autodesk product it is, it most definitely is not vanilla AutoCAD.

We just need "kenb" (Sorry, I don't know your real name) to tell us which vertical Autodesk product he / she is using; we can move this thread to the appropriate Autodesk product forum.

    Have a good one, Mike
