Default Add prompt to open dialog box when FILEDIA=0

Summary: When filedia = 0, new/open/save commands run on the command line - within the command line options, a prompt could be added to open the dialog box. This would allow a user to automatically change the FILEDIA variable without knowing what the variable is.

Description: Change the command line prompting for the NEW/OPEN/SAVE commands when FILEDIA = 0

How Used: When FILEDIA is 0 (zero), users get the command line version of these commands. This continues to be a daily question in the AutoCAD forums. Add an option in the prompting to "turn on dialogs".

    Instead of:
"Enter name of drawing to open <C:\T\sample.dwg>:"

    It might say:
"Enter name of drawing to open [<C:\T\sample.dwg>/show Dialogs]:

When the user chooses "show Dialogs", not only does the dialog appear, but FILEDIA gets restored to 1.

    Feature Affinity: Open/Save

You can do this now by pressing ~ (the tilde/squiggly above the backward apostrophe) anytime AutoCAD wants a file. I use it all the time with the -insert command because I hate the Insert dialog interface but I am constantly needing to "explore" to find a block.

The "~" option is not well known, and it certainly doesn't change FILEDIA back to 1.

The main point is to set FILEDIA back to 1 without the user having to know anything about "~" or FILEDIA...

The problem with stuff like that is that it annoys people who DO know about "~" and FILEDIA... Land Desktop tries to be "useful" and use the drawing scale to automatically apply overrides to dimension styles, and it causes lots of problems.

How? In what way? You could still use "~" and FILEDIA

Did you read the proposed prompt in the initial post? This would have no effect on current usage techniques, scripts, lisp, etc.

As long as it doesn't effect current usage like Action Center did it would be helpful to a lot of users. Wish I had a dolar for every time someone came to me because the dialog box didn't come up when it was supposed to.
