Question An active link (Excel OLE)

    Guys,
I expect you will tell me this is not in the correct place though i'm not really sure where to ask the question ?

I have copied and pasted and excel file in my cad drawing file and printed it, works great.

What i am not sure about is how the file is pasted, i presume it is pasted as a raster image which is why i posted the thread her.

What i would like to do is have an excel file actively linked so that when i update the excel file the image updates on the drawing file as well, like an xref.
Is there a way to do this ?

    Regards

    Stephen

    Hi Stephen

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the Raster Design General forum to this one...

Why? - As far as I know ( which means nothing ), OLE procedure's having nothing to do with "Raster Design".

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi

For starters, work through the following thread found in the AutoCAD FAQ forum...

Working with OLE (eg Excel) Objects within a drawing file

    Thank you Mike, greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the ill placement, i had no idea if it could be done or where to strt looking.
Figured it was pasted as a raster image when cut and pasted so i thought i would start there.

    Thanks again

    Hi Stephen

    No worries...

And definitely no "sorry" necessary / required.

    Good luck,

    Mike

Cool Re: An active link (Excel OLE)

    Mike,
Have been playing around with OLE insert.
What i am trying to do is insert part of an excel file into my drawing.
I figure seeing that I type up a Transmittal for all my drawing files that I issue and this transmittal states the Individual drawing names and discription.
I could insert this section of the excel file on to my tittle sheet which is a DWG file.
If the file is linked it can be altered and updated.
At present i have been successfully in inseerting the file and having it update (woowhoo)
I can't seem to get the file to insert in a legable format, by this i mean it seems to semi overlap the following letters.
The other problem is i can't seem to adjust the window size.

I have read through all the links you suggested and other links found but no real luck.
You mentioned in a couple of places about typing OLESCALE and using the OLE PROPERTIES window ?
I don't get a window labelled Properties rather TEXT SIZE.
I am using Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003 and AutoCAD 2006.

Any assistance anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Stephen

    Hi

Please post example files ( ie DWG & Excel file ) so we can take a look at the issue(s) / problem(s) you describe above, first-hand...

    Have a good one, Mike

Cool Re: An active link (Excel OLE)

    Mike,
Sorry i took so long, flat out with work.

Attached is a DWG file which you can see the cut and paste works well.
I just can't get the active link to transfer to a selected area and stay in an aspect ration to the excel sheet.

    Ok,
Well i tried it the other night at home on my laptop using 2006 AutoCAD, 2003 Microsoft Office and Win XP.

It would insert and be active but couldn't adjust the area of selection and the text was all overlapped.
Just did it now at work using all the above except 2005 AutoCAD and thought i was beeing made a fool of.
Seemed to all go right except the selection area couldn't be adjusted.
I realised that after i saved it and then re opened it it was not legible ?

Any assistance anyone or yourself could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Stephen

Cool Re: An active link (Excel OLE)

    Mike,
Just went back ino the file and the like text is ok ?
Maybe it's just after i rescaled the window and zoomed in or out ?
Maybe it just needed it regenerate ?

Well is still have the issue of how to adjust the selection area's position shape and size ?
You were also saying in one of the other threads i read about getting an OLE Properties box upon typing OLESCALE ? all i got was an OLE TEXT and simply allowed me to adjust the font, point and text height.

Not sure if we were getting the same box ?

    Regards

    Stephen
