Hello,
I'd like to see a few buttons off the Inquiry tool pallet on the main DWG TrueView tool pallet. It would be nice for DWG TrueView to be able to view, print and alllow you to be able to take measurements from the drawing.
Thank you
Steve

If they gave us that, we would have no incentive to create a DWF...Originally Posted by steven.a.chestnut

imho, dwf and dwg are for two different uses. I want dwg viewer so my in-house guys can look at my drawings, but, I would probably prefer to use dwf to send drawings out of house for review. some people might be making dwf now just so they can measure, but, I can't believe they'd be the majority.Originally Posted by rkmcswain
I second the wish to be able to measure in dwg true view, for now, we'll be sticking with the viewer we've been using since '04.

I agree completely. But Autodesk wants us to create DWF's...Originally Posted by Wanderer
By allowing measurements in DWF Composer, but not in the DWG viewer, that agenda is assisted.
BTW - what viewer are you using, Bentley View?

~nods~ it certainly appears that way, doesn't it?Originally Posted by rkmcswain
~nods~ can't argue that.
Yep, using bentley viewer. tried out a few of the other free viewers, that one seemed easiest and allowed the functionality we needed.

We tried Bentley View, but our users hated the interface. They are used to AutoCAD. So we are giving them DWG TrueView and they just won't be able to measure.Originally Posted by Wanderer

some of our users had been on volo view express, the rest had used autovue... none of them had used acad itself... they all seem to like the interface ok.Originally Posted by rkmcswain

I have yet to send out any DWFs on request. Our Architects all still request PDFs, or hardcopy. I did send out a few DWFs (in addition to PDFs) when they didn't specify a particular format, but I didn't get any feedback on which one they used. I know that in a few cases our engineers have been getting DWFs (in addition to DWG files) from the Architects, but other than that, I don't see any evidence that DWF has caught on.
Internally, I've been creating DWFs of all our project submittals because you can embed a DWF in a web page (as opposed to a PDF which needs to open into the full window). The only drawback is that the DWF viewer can't measure.
Internally (for our engineers), I'd also like to see a DWG viewer with measuring (and markup) capability. We've got workarounds now, but I'd rather have an Autodesk solution.
For years now, all I've seen from Autodesk in the areas of DWG & DWF have been lame & neutered. And no, I'm not going to spend $200 for a viewer.
