Default Help is slow to start up.

Everyone in our office has this same problem. The times may very slightly, but on my machine when I hit the F1 key or use the drop down menu to access Help it takes AutoCAD literally 74 seconds to bring up the dialog box for help. During that time you can not use any AutoCAD commands, you just sit there and wait. Its almost faster to get the answer from the AUGI forums. Does anybody else encounter this problem? Any ideas?

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link, I will check out our virus program to see if that is the problem. Tell me what is your secret when it comes to searching?

Before I posted the new thread, I did a search in Autodesk knowledge base and came up with nothing. Then I did a AUGI search for "help" and "slow" and came up with 500 hits. I went through about 200 of them and didn't have the time to do the rest. You added the word "file" in your search, I tried it again and came up with 170 hits for the three words. still a lot to go through.

Granted there is probably not a lot of problems that users will encounter that have not already been address in an AUGI thread somewhere, but do you have a secret to finding them so fast? We look so dumb when the answer is already there.

    Hi Steve

First - No one looks dumb, here ( except me ).

Second - There really is no secret.

    ********

    * Identify the "Key Words" to search for ie Slow & Help.

    * Plug these "Key Words" into the forum search facility ie Key Word(s): Slow + Help

    Over 500 results are returned.

    * If a lot of results are initially returned, look at refining the list of results by making use of the "Search Options" ( found on the forum search page )

    * Example - Using the same "Key Words" as above, look at restricting the search to the "General Design" area ( "Search in Forum(s)", make sure "Also search in child forums" check box is ticked ).

127 results are returned ( Number 9 on the list should be thread "Slow help file" ).

    *********

The below thread from the Forum Tips & Tricks forum, should also prove useful...

Forum Searches using short words and abbreviations

    *********

Hope the above helps a little...

    Mike

Don't listen to him Steve... well, I mean, do listen to him... lol... just basic good searching techniques figuring out what words are the key words is the most important step, but, Mike also has an amazing memory and can remember reading something and enough details to find it. Don't feel bad if you can't search as well as him, I know I can't.
