Default RE: How to "Sketch" in a completed Dwg!

I wonder, is there a way to create a solid or hatch as I am trying to make a fillet weld on a part that has a pipe with a flatbar welded on it ( a 3" pipe clamp)! The weld function in Inventor is quite limited I find so I am trying to make a simple fillet on the rounded edge to the flat edge of a flatbar! Can I create this solid weld by sketching it on the dwg! Thanks again!

    Paul,

I've split this thread (and done some minor editing) because I think that by placing this response under a new heading, you are more likely to get responses.

I'm not sure I have my head wrapped around your issue, but I don't see why this can't be done in the welding environment. Then again, I'm not the greatest welder around.

Can you post any pictures, sketches, or models of what your trying to do?

Hi Johanthan! The welding paramaters in Inventor are very sensitive & will only work if both edges are perpendicular & touching! No arcs allowed! I will try & attach a jpeg of my weldment for you! Thanks!

Here is the attachment Johanthan of the Weldment! What I need is a Fillet weld for the 2 1 1/2" flatbars that attach to the "half Pipe" section!

    Paul,

See my attached assembly for your bracket. Does this solve your question or did I miss your intention?

Thanks Brad! This is pretty much the same that I have accomplished so far! What you missed on your dwg was the same that I missed & that was a fillet on top of that flat bar! It just won't work in inventor because the arc of the pipe piece does not touch the flatbar! All I wanted to do was find a way to sketch in & hatch a small fillet weld on the 2d ortho views! Thanks again!

In the idw environment (at least in AIS9) there are tools for sketching welds - both front/side & end views. I remember the one for the front/side being the caterpillar command. I don't recall what the end view command was called (sorry not at a station with Inventor). The icon is a filled in triangle.

In welded assembly you can put a comemetic weld on th top of the flat bar to the half pipe. It will give you approximate physical properties, but will not appear on the .idw drawing. You would need to put the fillet weld in the drawing. I found that in the drawing the weld from the model shows the outline of the weld, and the weld you insert in the drawing mode is a filled is a black triangle.

This should be added to the wish list forum so it can be included in future releases.
