Exclamation nVidia Video Card 7800GTX-512PCI or Quadro FX3400

Configuring a new Xi system. No time for keeping up with all the new tech.

Home office using vanilla AC2006. May venture into Revit in next year or 2. Primarily light commercial (offices, churches, shopping mall, etc..) Want good gaming, TV, other when time permits.

Need to order this week...which one??

    1) nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX 512 PCIe
    2) nVidia Quadro FX3400 256

    Spec's here look like 7800: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....199&card2=357#

Any opinions or sugestions for alternate Xicomputer.com cards greatly appreciated.

Wow, that page doesn't help you at all.
I am running a quadro fx card and it works great for Cad applications.

However, I have the Gforce card at home to handle all the gaming needs.

I cannot tell you there is a difference between either card because I like
    them both.

I would say that the price difference here should scare you the most.
I only have the Quadro card because my office bought it for me.
Otherwise, I would be Geforce all the way.

Price point from Xi Computer is about the same.

Some of my research indicates the chip in this new 7800 is going to be the "base" for future Quadro development. It is supposed to have full OpenGL 2.0 support.

Not much response to my question, so I'll have to make my best guess. Since it is a home office play & work system with no HEAVY 3D, I'm leang towards the 7800.

7800 gtx is the base of quadro 4500 but have limited open gl support (not overlay etc).
Its similar hardware (95%or more)but different drivers in Cad or DCC use(Open GL in Window mode) an quadro 3400 will be better card but in gaming or DirectX Quadro 3400 its similar to Geforce 6800 GTO.

If you use Maya or 3ds to render buy the quadro if you only use Autocad and games buy the geforce (Autocad likes better RAM and CPU than grafics).
