Red face Selection problem while transparently zooming and panning

While executing an editing command, I used to be able to add
elements to my selection through transparently panning and zooming
when the elements were out of the display area. I panned to the
elements, selected them and panned back. Then I finished executing
my editing command. All prior selected elements were edited, no
matter if they were visible at the time of the xecution of the
    command or not.

When I try to do that in AutoCAD 2006, only elements are edited
that were visible in the display area at the time of executing
the command. All other elements (that were selected in the "off")
    are ignored by the command.

I suspect a system variable to be responsible for that, but which one?

Thanks in advance for any helpful comment!

FWIW, you could use the old method of starting the command before making the selection set.

Cool Re: Selection problem while transparently zooming and panning

I know this is an old post, but I've been having the same problem. The solution to start the command first did not solve the problem. Anyone have a more recent solution?
It requires a very unusual mind to undertake the analysis of the obvious.
