I have a terrain I made in MAX from an imported DWG file. It has almost 300,000 vertices and almost 600,000 faces. Anyone give me a good way to lower the size a bit without sacrificing too much quality?

Was your terrain originally a plane or box? Select your original object and reduce the number of segments.
Oh oops. Not a box. Convert to editable mesh and weld. Welding vertices combines all selected vertices into a single vertex.
Original object was contour lines imported from CAD. Not a box or a plane. I used the terrain compound object option to make it.
I'll try it.... but it will be taxing I bet....
Didn't work... too many vertices

Try the MultiRe modifier or the Optimize modifier or you could use the Conform spacewarp with a lower resolution plane object above the original terrain.....Let me know if you need clarification.
