Unhappy Import points into drawing file from Excel

I'm going to try and ask this as simple as I can. I'm starting to design retaining walls. The engineer gives me the x and y of the ground lines and also the x and y for the wall block outline. It starts at 0. example would be: 0, 2014.575 ; .75, 2014.575. This takes forever to enter all of this data into cad by drawing a polyline using these elevations and stations. Is there an easier way of maybe importing this data from say an Excel file?
I have Autodesk Civil 3D 2006. Thanks so much for any input.

    Hi

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD 2006 General forum to this one...

Why? - I believe Civil 3D has tools built-in that allow direct import of Point data.

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi

In case I have the above totally wrong ( fair chance of that being the case ), the following threads contains some information that should prove useful...

Inputting numerous co-ordinates from excel files

Plus, hopefully "MHultgren" will be along soon to correct the mess I have caused.

    Have a good one, Mike

Thanks for picking that up J,
Friday was hectic around here and I didn't make it in to check on the threads before I left work. Gotta love those 5:00 changes for a Monday morning submittal

if you already have your point data on an excel file.. save it on a csv format, then open the csv format file of the point data using notepad..

once you have opened it, copy the data.

on the autocad command line, enter the pline command then paste the point data you copied from notepad. every coordinate (x,y) will be recognized now by autocad as one single point. i guess that should do it.

Can one do this too with placing points in the drawing? creating the x, y, and z coordinates of those points?

You can import points using the ASCII format, PNEZD would be for Point Number (P), Northing(N or y), Easting(E or x), Elevation (E or z) and Description. So if you saved your Excel file as CSV and then imported it using a ENZ format it would automatically insert the point numbers based on your settings. The description would be blank unless you added it to the Excel file before saving it to a CSV. You could also add the point numbers in the first column rather quickly by inserting a column, typing a 1 in the first cell and then hilite the first cell. You can then click the little white cross that will show up at the bottom right corner of the cell and while you hold the mouse button down, drag your mouse all the way to the bottom.
