    Default Saved file got BIG

OK, I've read the FAQ threads, did my homework first before posting this. We have 2006 so layer filters is not the problem. Ran Robert Bells lisp just to say I did. Tried -purging REGAPPS too, there were none.

When the drawing is wblocked the file size shrinks down to ~20Mb, when it is saved_as, it balloons to over 10 times that size.

The properties on both are the same. There are no x-refs or images attached. There is a lot of 3rd party, 3d geometry , though.

    Any ideas?

if it is only one file giving you problems, would turning on all geometry and then doing a cut/paste (don't type in all to select) to 'start over' the file be worth looking into?
Sometimes, i get lost in my own thoughts and need to ask directions to find my way back.

I tried cutting all 41,330 objects and AutoCAD crashed. That's a lot of stuff on a clipboard.

In a copy of the drawing, make sure everything is on and thawed, then erase everything by selection (not using ALL). Now, does a LIST ALL select anything? If so, what? What does the STATUS command tell you before and after the erase? How big is the "empty" drawing once saved?

    One technique I use is:
    1. Erase
    2. All
    3. R (for remove)
    4. W (for window)
    5. Window my drawing entities.

This will erase all entities that are outside of your drawing boundaries.

    Hope this helps.

By coincidence, I just had to fix up a file like this. It was thousands of Mtext objects consisting only of "\A1;", plus a lot of invisible render blocks. The ERASE ALL Remove Crossing thing made it all better.

Glad it worked for you. We are still without a solution here.

    Hi

Is there a way you can get a sample drawing file to me...

If yes, please feel free to do so.

    Have a good one, Mike

That's OK, it's too hard to send a 200+ mB file anyway! Thanks for the offer.
