    Default Testing during Interviews

Our company is currently looking at hiring a CAD Tech. We would like to give them a test to check their AutoCAD skills. Does anyone know of a standard test or have any ideas as to where I could find one. Or even what to put on one.

    Thanks,

    Hi

Try plugging the following search criteria into the forum search facility ( Hint - limit the search to the CAD Management forum area )...

    Key Word(s): *Interview* + *Test*

    Have a good one, Mike

Thanks, It looks like most of the posts are old but I did get some good information. Although it appears that there is no "Standard" for a drawing test. The last interview I did with a test was done on the drawing board!! I am going to check into some more questions that may narrow our choice. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Ken,

I would suggest a written and an AutoCAD test using the program. That way you test both general knowledge and skills. Do a search on Google for "AutoCAD Test" and you should be able to find several free resources.

I would also suggest after they complete the test on AutoCAD, have them print it out. You'd be surprised how many people are weak in that area. You can also go back and undo behind them and see what steps they used to complete the test.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    Good luck,
    Another Ken

You would only be able to undo if they kept the drawing open.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.

Good point, make sure you tell them to plot and "Do Not Close the Drawing"!

I was given the task of creating a cad test. This test was going to be used for testing entry level drafters. I told my boss "Personally if someone asked me to take a cad test I would either answer no or get up and leave. Isn't this why you have a 90 day probationary period?"

My boss had all of the cad users take the test. They all had 30 min's and a basic setup of acad to use. They did this to gauge if the test was sufficent and give everyone a level playing field. They were able to compare the tested persons capabilities to current workers.
