I was wondering how you control the line weights of elements created as in place families? I'm also curious how others deal with their line weights, because I'm doing something wrong. I just spent the entire night fixing lineweights on my elevations. Very frustrating...but I have to believe I'm not doing something right. Thanks for any input.

Most likely follow the object properties of the category you pick when making the in-place family.

You need to create subcategories for each type of object, then you can control the display properties of each peice however you want.

    As for elevations.

I set up view templates with the most common lineweight changes to the stock set up. Ie under view visibility adjust the wall, roof, window, etc projection lineweights to the most common ones you want in elevation, apply that view template to all your elevation views, early in design this is all I do. Next hit lines with the linework tool as req'd to bring them up or down in lineweight. if you have complex profiles, I just trace them with detail lines, then mirror and copy that around as necessary. Generally, elevation touch up in revit is the last thing I do.

Thanks for the advice and help. Next time I'll remember to set it up ahead of time. Also need to read up on view templates...I think this could help alot.
