Default Click a hyperlinked DWG in MS Word / Excel, opens a Trueview2 dialog box...

Not sure if this is the best place so please move if required.

When clicking on a hyperlinked dwg in MS Word or Excel a Trueview2 dialogue box is appearing asking for DWGViso.dwt. I have tried creating this template in the directory Trueview is searching but it is not shown in the dialogue box even though it's there. This fault seems to be something to do with unc addresses as double clicking on a file opens trueview2 without errors.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Hi Jim,

Sorry, I'm not a Moderator so I can't move this post. There is a DWG Trueview forum that may yield better results.

    I hope this helps.

I'll go ahead and move this from the CAD Management forum. Good luck, Jim.

Question Re: Click a hyperlinked DWG in MS Word / Excel, opens a Trueview2 dialog box...

    Hi

Have you installed DWG TrueView ?

Template file DWGViso.dwt exists for myself in the following location...

    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\DWG TrueView\UserDataCache\Template

    Have a good one, Mike

Yes TrueView is installed and the DWGViso.dwt file exists in 2 places one where you mentioned which is the standard install and also under the users documents and settings area set when the user first launches the program. It seems strange

    Hyperlink \\ctnf005\caddwg... fails but
    Hyperlink i:\caddwg works where i:\ = \\ctnf005\

    Anyone any ideas?

    Hi

Does the above HyperLink ( using UNC path ) work within AutoCAD ?

NUC paths should work ok! within AutoCAD.

    Mike,

Yes everything works fine in AutoCAD, the problem is definitely something to do with Trueview2.

    Hi

    Hmmm, strange...

I have just carried out tests here.

    * DWG file contains HyperLinks using UNC paths.
    * Open above DWG file in DWG TrueView / Build Version: 2.0.0.161 / AutoCAD OEM Build Version: R.2.54.20
    * Ctrl+Click to Open HyperLink(s) with UNC path(s).

Result, HyperLink(s) were correctly resolved and Opened ie

    * HyperLink ( using UNC path ) to DWG file was resolved and Opened.
    * HyperLink ( using UNC path ) to Excel file was resolved and Opened.

    Have a good one, Mike

    Mike,

My build versions correspond to yours exactly.
Can you please do me a favour and try opening a hyperlink to a dwg from a word doc file and see what you get? The only other thing I know of is a MS XP patch which causes fatal errors when creating hyperlinks in AutoCAD 2004 after it's installed. I don't really think this could be the problem though.

    Thanks again
    Jim.
