I just ordered a Mac Pro desktop and Macbook Pro laptop. I'm tired of PC's. I'll let you know how Revit runs when I get it.

I'll second that. Several Dell laptops I've used that were supposed to be faster and had higher specs then my old Sager still weren't as snappy due to slower hard-drives. The 7200 rpm drives really do make a difference. It's a little hard to notice at first, but when you jump between machines, you'll start to see the difference... I don't think I'd go back personally to anything less...

I want to do the same thing so I will be very interested to hear how your Mac Pro runs Revit. What kind of specs does the Mac Pro you ordered have?

I got an IMac 24" 2.33 mhz with 2 gigs ram. I run Revit through Parallels and the performance is unbelievable. Attached is a screen shot of Revit in a window inside OSX. There is absolutely no reason to buy a PC anymore. The bundled programs that come with each mac outshine anything you can buy for the PC. My mac found my wireless network right when I first turned it on. I only have one cable coming from the back of my computer, the power cable. The mouse and keyboard are all wireless. All my printers, servers, backups (everything is PC based) worked right away. In the few months I have had it, I have never had to shutdown, restart, or any of that, even after installing programs. It still runs the same as the day I got it. All I need Windows for is Revit. I also run Excel on the windows side, but only because I already own it for PC and didn't want to buy it again. I guess the Mac version is pretty sweet.

For the Parallels setup, I set aside only 500 MB of Ram (2 large projects loaded at the same time). I also only created a 5 gig virtual hard drive. That means that when ever I want to back up my entire PC. I just burn that file to a DVD. Now, when the windows side starts slowing down, I just overwrite the file with my origional backup. All my programs are still there, in mint condition in about 5 minutes. When a new version of Revit comes out. I install and then burn a new disk.

Sounds awesome! I wish I could give this a bash. It sounds like it could be well worth the time and effort spent on it. Just one question I heard there was a major security issue with wireless mac's. Something to do with the wireless network card being eas to hack into. Have you had any issues with this?

Thats a myth the two jokers that demonstrated the hack at the black hat conference would not give any details of how it was done, when thay did finally release some details the machine they hacked was using a third party wireless network card. Here is a link to the reports http://macdailynews.com/index.php/we...omments/10603/
