    Default Hydrology and Hydraulics

This is a big one to ask for, but I would love for Civil 3D to allow for hydrology and hydraulic calculations.

It would need to accept all typical hydro. information: watershed area, runoff coif, time of concentration, starting HGL, etc., and also have a pipe routine to calculate HGL's automatically. I would like to pipe routine to be linked to the pipes in the profile for seamless generation of revised profiles. I would be surprised if Autodesk is not already working on this.

Add to that Export and Import of HECRAS and HEC2 and you got yourself a winner!

Yes we do not use HEC in our office, but it is widely used and that would be quite the setup

Having a static modeler is nice for those situations that allow for a simple hydrographic model. However with that said, in situations where you have little to no topographic relief, little to no free board, ponds, or fluctuating tail water conditions. The use of a static modeler may exacerbate the problem buy indicating the need for a larger system than what is actually needed. Remember in reality runoff entering a pond doesn't affect the downstream system instantly, like it does in a static modeler and thous sizing your system for a higher volume than what actually occurs. If one were interested in making this civil design platform a total hydrological design package, some sort of dynamic modeler would have to be incorporated.

We have created an add on for import and export of HECRAS and have been tossing around the idea of doing something for HECHMS next. You can email ras@civil3d.com if you are interested.

Not sure if anuone here has seen it, but in 2008 there is now an Export to HECRAS option in the Reports manager that will export the .geo file for you.
