Revit Requirements

Does anyone know what the system requirements for Revit 9 may be? I have a client looking into both ADT 2007 (they already have 2006 and are on subscription, but currently just use ADT 3.3) and Revit. I was trying to see if the new Revit (which will likely be available by the time they order it) is a lighter/heavier/about the same resource hog as ADT since their computer systems are on the light-weight side.. I want to guide them toward Revit, but it will be an easier sell if it doesn't take more (or took less) than ADT to run..

Brian I can't advise on the combo but take a look at the Revit Hardware & there are lots of threads and advice on Revit Systems about 2 gig Ram is max appropriate for Revit though ADT may benefit from more (I dunno)

I figured 2GB would likely be it, 1GB min. Short version being they'll need to upgrade their systems from 512mb if they ever want to actually upgrade again.

I have a:

P4 2.4
1.25GB Ram
256MB ATI 9250 Video
4GB Page File
80GB HDD

and no problem running R8.1. I only notice it slowing down when rendering!

R9 "I beleive" will need more memory and possible a 3.0 or higher processor.

I don't know what the listed requirements for R9 are either, but I don't think they're a very good gauge anyway. If you list what the main hardware specs (CPU/RAM/Video) of their computers and the size of projects they're doing, maybe someone can give some real-world perspective on whether the hardware would be a show-stopper or not.

That being said, in my opinion, it would be a bit short sighted of them to let the hardware be a deciding factor on whether to go with ADT over Revit.

Revit system requirements have stayed about the same since R6. You'll find R9 will run fine on a system that was running R7 or 8.

These are higher than 8.1 I think. We have many 1.7Ghz machines with 1gb RAM and Revit 8.1 works fine. It looks like 9 will require more.

Don't always believe what you read. I have a friend that worked at Autodesk who developed one of their apps. I asked how they came up with the recommended system. "Works fine on my machine - so that's what we used...." Real scientific.

Well the "powerful" machine in this office is a PIII with 512 Ram. I figure it will run, but it won't be very peppy (basically the same performance as ADT at that power). I'll have to see what the other machines (which I've been told are weaker) are running.

FWIW Brian, I have a beta version on my laptop and that's running fine with only 512Mb ram on a Intel Pentium 4 processor, 2.8 GHz, XP (sp 2)...etc

mind you have haven't done any rendering on that machine...
