Lightbulb Font/shape file name can not exceed 64 characters

    Hi
I have created complex linetype by express tool in AutoCAD 2004. Used those linetype in drawings. Those drawings are saved in 2000 format. Problem is when I am going to open those drawing in AutoCAD 2000i or AutoCAD 2002 it is giving a msg like "Font/shape file name can not exceed 64 characters". My shp/shx file name is in 2 to 4 character.
    Please help.

    Hi Animesh

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD General forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi

Try the following 5 results obtained via an Autodesk Discussion Groups "All AutoCAD Groups" search...

    Exceed AND 64 AND Characters

    Have a good one, Mike

Thanks Mike & rkmcswain. I have no problem in posting drawing file and shp file. The files are attached. from the links I found information :-

"Re: Font Shape name cannot exceed 64 characters
if you are looking for a tool to remove hard-coded font paths that your AutoCAD cannot handle, try the following ... AutoCAD will then search for (and find) your fonts from either the default AutoCAD fonts folder or the windows font folder ... like it should ...

    REDIR
(Options) uncheck all but "Styles and Shapes"
    Use * (Shift+ for all
to Replace * with blank, simply press one more time

REDIR reports modified paths and you're done!

this has worked for me time and time again ...

    Long live Express Tools ...

Put the shape/font file in one of the support folders and when you call it, do not navigate to it. In an existing drawing, run the command line version of the command as in -STYLE and when nominating the file, only give it the filename and not the path as well."

I think REDIR is a command, which comes under express tool. There is no surety that in client machine it is installed.

When I Open drawing file "101.dwg" it is asking for Shape Files...

    MECON.shx
    &
    NEWSHP.shx

Can you please supply those two files.

    Have a good one, Mike

We don't need the other two shape files.

I should have pointed you to my web page on shape files [http://rkmcswain.blogspot.com/2006/0...hape-file.html ]. I have a lisp there that will produce a summary report on shape file usage. Here is the report on your drawing.

    Code:
LINETYPE [BARBED] uses SHAPE # [12] in the file [C:\MECON\MECON.SHX]
LINETYPE [PWPL] uses SHAPE # [2] in the file [C:\MECON\MECON.SHX]
LINETYPE [CAB1] uses SHAPE # [13] in the file [C:\MECON\MECON.SHX]
LINETYPE [CLT] uses SHAPE # [16] in the file [C:\MECON\MECON.SHX]
LINETYPE [UAPL] uses SHAPE # [1] in the file [C:\MECON\MECON1.SHX]

Purge those shapes and reattach using a shorter path.
