ARIAL font does not show up on DWG

I am using ARIAL as my Standard font type and every now and then I lose it on the drawing - it won't display or plot as Arial. It still lists as Standard and the style type says Arial, but the display looks like a simplex or a romans font. Because Arial is compressed and simplex is not, it makes it impossible to accurately place the text when it is not showing up as Arial. (See attachments for examples).

I am using vanilla ACAD2002 with no bells or whistles. I have my support file search path set to include the folder where my fonts are, my alternate font is set to Arial, my font mapping file is going to the right folder. I have saved the file and reloaded, I have done a regenall, I have switched to text frame only and back again. Nothing seems to work to bring it back to Arial.

Any ideas?

I had this problem with one of the computers here, and, after checking and rechecking everything several times, I copyied the ttf to the Windows font directory; the problem went away. Why? I haven't the foggiest idea . But it worked. You might give it a shot, just in case.

My Windows\Fonts folder already has Arial in it and it wont' let me copy it anyway. Don't know if it is locked by Windows or my IT Dept.

I exited the drawing during lunch and reloaded after lunch and <voila!> Arial was back! How's 'bout them apples?

Once a font is installed (not copied) to \Windows\Fonts, Windows won't let you reinstall it without first deleting it.
