Is there some trick to linking to a .pdf (Acrobat)? AutoCad seems to try to open the link but immediately closes the window.

Have you updated your PDF Reader? The suggestion from this post (Hyperlink to a PDF) in the Autodesk Discussion Groups makes a reference to that issue.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
