    Default Creating planar trees

Hello I once used a previous set up material, that I put a tree or similar irregular shaped object on,and when the plane then render it and only the object would show up. Now when I try to create one from scratch the object of the map shows up but it fills the rest of the plane with a default color. Any help would be great. Kinda new at this.

Are you using an opacity map as well as your image?

Your opacity map (image) will be white and follow the same profile as the extents of the image you want to see when rendered, and everything you don't want to see will be black, insert into your opacity map layer.
