    Default Revit Families Help

I am using Revit 5.1(old school I know but i dont want to drop 300 bucks for the student version of 9.0) and recently I reinstalled it on my CPU and I have been unable to finish custom families. I am able to open a new family and draw what I want, but I can't "finish family" making it completely ineffective in my drawings. Can an expert, or just knowledgeable person, please tell me why this is or make a guess? Suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thank You,

    Justin,

Can you open the original family? it sounds like the original family is corrupted i would just create a new family and replace the old families in my drawings.
