Question AutoCAD, to GIF or not to GIF

    Hi

Regarding the following thread within the Autodesk Discussion Groups -

    http://discussion.autodesk.com/threa...hreadID=333860

The other day we experienced/noticed a very similar problem, some CAD PC's when working within AutoCAD allow the attachment of GIF's via the Image command, some don't....

The following Technical Documents/Article indicate that AutoCAD supports the functionality of attaching GIF images -

ID: TS20202 - Supported raster file formats

ID: TS69570 - Comparison of raster images in AutoCAD® Release 14 and later releases to AutoCAD Release 13

ID: TS24375 - Favorites folder in DesignCenter

    The World of Raster

The following Article indicates that AutoCAD does *not* support the functionality of attaching GIF images -

    All about Images

    Confused? I am <:)

We found that a CAD PC with just vanilla AutoCAD installed does *not* allow GIF images to be attached.

We have since found that if we install LDT on the CAD PC that contained vanilla AutoCAD (ie 2 Autodesk products installed side-by-side) the functionality of attaching GIF images within AutoCAD becomes available (makes sense as AutoCAD is at the core of LDT). Therefore it seems LDT installs/switches_on something that enables the attaching of GIF images.

Am I correct with the above or should vanilla AutoCAD have the functionality of attaching GIF images (as stated on the Autodesk web site).

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi

The above discussion has progressed further, it now offers a possible solution.

    I've tried the suggestion "IEGIFRD80.DLL"

    So far so good

    Cheers, Mike

    AutoCAD 2005 supports GIF out-of-the-box.

True Robert, but there is a "bug" of sorts. See the thread Mike referred to in his first post.
