    Question AutoLisp or VBA

I know this will probably be moved to another forum, wasn't sure which forum it belonged.

My question is if one was to want to learn AutoLISP or VBA, which one would be better for the AutoCAD environment along with Microsoft applications. I am familiar with Access VBA, writing scripts and also creating macros for commands buttons. I would like to take this to the next level and not sure which code to pursue.

    Thanks for the guidance!

If you'd like I can move this thread to either the Lisp forum or the VBA forum. I could also see this in the Cad Management forum.
From what little I know, VBA would be the better choice. From my understanding, Adesk is trying to phase out lisp. Most of the new functions are more VBA based that Lisp based. But I'll be the first to tell you I may be way off base.
On another note, are you look specifically at which would be better for ADT/ABS?
If so this may be the better location.
Please let me know which forum you'd like to see this in.

    David,
The programming will be used for ADT, but with what your saying about Autodesk phasing out AutoLISP, then it sounds like VBA would be better to learn and maybe just touch on AutoLISP just to bridge the gap for now. With that being said, this thread should belong in VBA. Let me know if that is good reasoning. And either you or I can move it.

I would not go so far as to say that they are planning to phase out AutoLISP [not that I have any clue as to future plans, mind you]. But certainly the effort for future development is not centered on AutoLISP. There is nothing wrong with learning either, but I would probably lean toward VBA if I were starting out from scratch myself. Or, you could get really ambitious, and tackle .NET.

    I'll second that.

I would also recommend vba. A) you already are familiar with it. B) you only need to learn the acad object model. BTW, check out the developer's guide...acad_dev.chm. C) you don't need any other software. As you get projects that require it, you can migrate to .net. Or when they finally make an integrated 'vba' version that replaces vba.
