I'm really struggling with deciding how to implement Vault in a multi user environment.
I have between 80 and a hundred Land Desktop installs and am trying to migrate to Civil 3D. Seems that Vault is now nearly mandatory in this type of environment.
I have hired what I consider to be the best consultant in the business to help us in this endeavor.
I have bitten the bullet and decided I needed another SQL server to house Vault.
BTW and off topic, Anybody know Microsoft policy on by processor licensing and Dual Core processors?
My question is how do I manage it?
I'm pretty sure with that many users and that many open projects I need multiple Vaults.
Some of our projects are huge , some not so much.
Some of our projects are conducted entirely within one discipline, some are multi discipline, some are MULTI-MULTI discipline [ we also have Archies and MEP group ].
My first inclination is to create the one project one Vault model.
Problem with that model, in a couple years I could end up with 500 vaults.
Yikes that sounds messy. Adding and subtracting users in the Vault, Managing the size of the Vault, Backing up the Vault, Archiving the Vault, restoring the Vault.
I really don't want to turn the Vault Administrator into a full-time job.
Even at the end of the day I only keep 1 version in the Vault and 1 copy in the working folder, I have doubled the file space requirement for a project.
( and BTW Mike please don't bury this in the Civil 3D general group, I was hoping to attract some Inventor guys who might have answers to these questions.)
