Slow Plot Dialog Box

Hi,

In our office we use a network folder to store all our plot styles so that all are available to all users.

Both ADT and map users are mapped to the same folder.

The problem is that for MAP users it takes at least 30 seconds (sometimes much more) for the plot dialog box to appear after issuing the command. For ADT users the dialog box comes up almost immediately.

If I set the plot styles location to the local disk for the MAP users the problem goes away.

Can anyone think why ADT and MAP 2006 behave differently?

Most likely missing links in PC3 files. Like missing PMP files, pointers to drivers that are not installed locally, etc.

Also, make sure there isn't a "Add-A-Plotter Wizard" shortcut in the networked plotters directory - it can be pointing to an .exe that isn't there.

You can test by removing all files from the directory, then run PLOT from Map. If it's fine, then add each PC3 file back one at a time until the problem occurs. That will point to the problem file. Repeat until they are all added back/fixed.

Thanks for the reply.

The problem is now sorted. Turning off the fancy metallic skin in Map 3d with the "MAPSKINMAP" command improved the performance significantly.
