using symbols in text

I've looked through the old threads and didn't find any solution to this so I'd like to know what work around people are using? How do you get a diameter, centerline, or plate symbol into your text?

We are currently using Arial, but I'd be willing to change to another simple sans serif font if I could only have symbols too.

Hi,
1. Diameter can be gotten from the Windows character map (or ALT 0216).

Nothing for the other ones you mention. We had this thread recently and I was ready to build my own symbols. Then I got thinking that I would have to send the font file from then on to everybody, and decided that would be a big hassle and not the way I wanted to go.

2. To call out angles I am swtiching to using an "L" , i.e. L3X3X3/16.

3. For centerline there is an annotation symbol that comes with Revit. What I did was to edit the family and add a text string at the end. Many time I will put the centerline symbol on the top of a centerline, then add "beam" or "column" after that. So my edited version seems like it will handle most of the instances I will be using. I also made a version for the plate symbol as well.

4. We no longer use fractional symbols but instead write "1 1/2" for example.

Thanks for your reply. I guess we'll make due with diameter and plus/minus and type out the rest. This kind of thing makes me long for Autocad...just a little bit.
