Default stop something moving when door swing reversed

    Hello everybody,
Does anybody know how I can stop some linework moving when I reverse a door?
Say you have a door family with some linework or a symbol which must be on the inside (like a lightswitch) but the door can open either in or out. When I reverse the door swing the switch moves to the outside. Is this preventable?

The control arrows flip every object within the family.

Within the family, you could add the stuff to both sides of the wall, and then add visibility parameters to control on which side it shows, but I believe you'd have ot contol it manually. I can't think of any way to link it with the control arrow.

Make the switch a separate family and place it on the wall?

    Hello Steve,

maybe switch was a bad example. What about an external threshold or in my case, we manufacture modular demountable buildings. In our wall consruction we have a number of layers (external metal skin, ply sheathing, stud, insulation, internal plasterboard) and we sometimes wrap this construction with brick. I need to fix the position of the stud detail 12.5mm from the inside face of the wall. We use doors that can swing outwards or inwards and have a stud detail as part of the door family. I suppose I could use 2 door families (inswing and outswing) OR place the stud detail as a separate family, but I was hoping to avoid these solutions if possible.

PS I only used the switch example as it was shorter to explain

No worries. For what you want to do you'll probably be better off with two door families unless you only show the detail once in which case a separate detail component might be more efficient? It would be interesting if nested components could continue to have their own flip controls but imagine the confusion when you click the wrong control Maybe just an option for nested objects to Not Flip?

You could create the symblic linework for the threshold, jamb light switch etc. on both sides and then use yes/no instance parameters to control visibility.

    Thanks Steve and Dimitri (grandpa).

    Both solutions are viable.

I think it would be great if the wall hosted family always knew which was the outside face and which was the inside face even if it is reversed. It would seem do-able as the wall has reference planes that are locked to the faces. Come on programmers, get your thinking caps on!

    Thanks again.
