Woohoo! Congrats on making your first post! Welcome to the forums!
If you have the enhanced editor option selected (the bottom of Options page in your Control Panel) you should see a little white smiley face next to your text formatting options, with a dropdown containing the smilies... but, once you've been around awhile, you start to learn some of the codes like : and ) make aand : razz : makes
