Check out a licence to a machine

I just found out something the hard way that I did not realize before. When a license is checked out of the network pool, that checked out license is only good for the User on that machine that checked it out. If a user that did not check out the license uses the machine offline, the product will not run. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to check out to the machine or where autodesk buries the information about the checked out license?
